Donnottar Castle is sited just outside Stonehaven on the A90 as one drives north, towards The Granite City of Aberdeen.
It is well worth a visit and there are many interesting cliff top walks, sea birds and puffins to see as well the town of Stonehaven to visit.
Donnottar Castle as been graced by William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots, the Marquis of Montrose and the future King Charles II.
It was at Dunnottar Castle that a small garrison held out against the might of Cromwell’s army for eight months and saved the Scottish Crown Jewels, the ‘Honours of Scotland’, from destruction. The Crown, sceptre and sword now take pride of place in Edinburgh Castle.
